In transit Istanbul

I'm currently relaxing in Ataturk airport, in Istanbul, Turkey. Yes, there's a Starbucks in sight. I had an overnight flight from JFK that was surprisingly easy - I had three seats to spread out across, and was thus actually able to sleep. Although I usually like being freakishly tall, it doesn't come in handy on plane flights. I arrived at 9:30 am, and thus had time to catch a cab into the old town city center, aka Sultanhamet. I've been there before, so I didn't bother going into some of the sites like the Blue Mosque or the Hagia Sophia. Instead I just found a good spot at a cafe and people watched for a stretch, before walking around a little to stretch the legs. Now I have another hour before my Istanbul-Bishkek flight. For some reason almost all the flights into Kyrgyzstan arrive in the middle of the night. I arrive at the lovely hour of 1:30 am. Thankfully someone is supposed to be there to meet me. One final note - when I checked in for my Raleigh-JFK, the gate agent said, "I've been working at this airport for 7 years and I've never seen that destination" in reference to Bishkek. I'm leaving the beaten path!

  1. How is the Architecture in Istanbul? I recall that it's the new name for Constantinople. Have you seen much latin, or any statues?
